I live a few blocks from the World Trade Center site and have been wanting to pay a visit to the new memorial.
You have to reserve free tickets, and after doing so a month in advance, I was able to go last night.
It was a great experience (read: a bit mind blowing) and I thought you might like to see some of the shots taken during the visit.
The memorial sits in the center of a ton of construction, yet it’s this beautiful park that you wouldn’t expect looking from the outside in.
Looking up at the Freedom Tower – the largest of five towers that are supposed to be built. Currently they are putting up around one floor per week.
The fountains are simply amazing. They’re huge and dampen the sounds of the city… which bring about a feeling of peace.
Reed the bottom inscription – it stopped me in my tracks.
I then posted the shot to Facebook, and a comment that was left gave me chills. Seriously, read the first comment left by clicking here.
I think this glass structure is the actual memorial building, but I could be wrong. It was pretty amazing to see the iron structures inside that were from the World Trade Center.
The North Tower fountain with the base of the Freedom tower in the background.
After taking the shot I noticed the American flag hanging from another building in the background. At that moment… it was if the flag was keeping watch, and that felt comforting.
People leave flowers on names of loved-ones and friends.
A final look of the North Tower fountain.
If you are visiting New York City, I highly recommend you visit the World Trade Center Memorial. You have to reserve tickets (free) in advance, and can do so at 911Memorial.org.
