For some, Twitter is absolutely worthless.
They don’t get it.
They don’t understand what so many people have to talk about. And the list goes on.
But for me, it’s very useful and I’ve met a lot of great people through the social network. And specifically, at this moment, Twitter is worth $310 to me.
Allow me to explain.
I recently purchased a new camera which means my old camera has been sitting at home packaged up in it’s original box for a couple months. Since it’s not being used and probably feeling pretty lonely sitting on the top shelf in my closet, I decided it was time to put it on eBay (this weekend) and hope to get a few hundred dollars for it.
Enter Twitter.
Yesterday I saw a friend tweet something about wanting to buy a camera for a shoot with a friend because hers died. I let her know that mine was available and provided all of the nerdy specs that she might care about. After taking less than a day to decide I received a DM (on Twitter) confirming she wanted to buy the camera for $300 + $10 for shipping.
[Someone hit one of those “That was Easy” buttons.]
Not only am I helping a friend out, she’s also making the purchase from someone she trusts. It’s a win/win.
While others continue to wonder what this Twitter thing is all about, I’ll take the $310 that’s already hit my bank account and go grab a nice dinner. I’ll then take the other $300 leftover after my nice dinner (my bad attempt at being funny) and put it towards something useful.
