10/2 is the day that Lance Armstrong was diagnosed with cancer. I still find it to be inspiring that he not only beat the disease, but went on to create Livestrong… and also won a couple of small bike races along the way.
Speaking of cancer, when I hear the word three things come to mind immediately:
- Lance Armstrong.
- The yellow bracelet (Livestrong) that I have worn for the last six or seven years.
- My first interaction with a child with cancer while working at the Victory Junction Gang Camp. I was getting media releases signed by parents in the Body Shop (aka hospital) and remember a young boy handing his meds to a nurse. And I’m not just talking a few different meds – he handed over a large zip lock bag that had 15 or so diff meds in it. For whatever reason the experience has always stuck with me… probably because it seemed like so much for a child to handle.
Ride a bike. Take a jog. Walk. Whatever you do – enjoy your health.
