I’ve been a big fan of the The Flip video camera for quite some time, but there is now a new player in the market, the iPod Nano. I’ve owned two different Flips so far and really like how simple they are to operate.
After comparing the video quality of the iPod and The Flip, it appears that flip is a slight step down in both video and sound quality. There is a big but here though.
My iPod will be treated very much like my iPhone – meaning it’s not something I want to lose or beat up due to the vast amount of music that will be stored on it. On the other hand, The Flip cost me around $100 (Nano was $149), but it is more rugged and something I’d be comfortable taking on the beach… not so much for the Nano.
They both seem like great products, but if you are looking for good video quality from an extremely small device… the Nano is perfect for you. I’ll probably continue to use both devices, but the situation will determine which I take along for the ride.
I should add that the radio feature on the new Nano seems to be a great addition.
Update: I just realized something worth noting. The Flip has the ability to zoom in and zoom out, and unless I’m missing something the Nano does not.
