I wanted to share two new blog concepts with you and see if you had any initial feedback on the ideas.
First, let me offer some quick background. I’ve had a blog at RyanShell.com for quite some time, but I think you can only take a personally branded blog so far. Also, up until a few days ago this site was more of a personal branding site, and not just a blog.
Moving forward I think I’d like to make this site my online branding hub, but to then have a second site where I blog about marketing/business related topics.
This second site very well could be a collaborative blog, or it could be 100% written by me – that decision has not been made just yet. I’ve purchased two domain names and would love to share the ideas with you.
Here’s what I’ve come up with.
1. A Little Marketing Blog – This one constantly makes me laugh. I intend on growing whatever site I launch, and the fact that the name calls the site “little” is a bit humorous.
The name also has “marketing blog” in the title, and that’s a phrase that receives a good number of searches. Although, at this point I don’t know that it’s possible to rank number 1 in Google for “marketing blog” given how fierce the competition is.
The other factor is that the title has “marketing blog” in it, and I, at times, might like to talk about things that are related to business and not just marketing. Although, coloring outside the lines is perfectly acceptable so I don’t see that as a huge issue.
2. Coffee Shop Ideas – I’m a fan of coming up with out of the box names, such as Fashables, but I had a harder time coming up with something for a second option.
Then, while stopping by a coffee shop one day the thought of how they tend to be creative environments came to mind. And that’s where Coffee Shop Ideas came from. The name could easily lend itself to a variety of topics and would make a lot of sense from a collaborative blog standpoint.
If you have a harder time with this name than the first, just remember that a sites content is what makes the site, not just the name. Fashables.com is a perfect example.
Does either name jump out at you? Do you hate them both? Any additional ideas come to mind? Feel free to leave a comment below, or send me a message on Twitter (@RyanShell).
