I work for a credit union and have been pushing social media for a while (as you might imagine), but a strategy had to be created and I had to get certain folks on board. To my delight, the time has come!
We launched a blog (seen below) today that will essentially be the social media hub. In addition to the blog we’ll also be utilizing Facebook, Twitter, YouTube and flickr.
A “blog team” that is made up of individuals from a variety of departments will provide content for two to three posts a day. Some people only shoot for one to two posts a week, but I’m a firm believer that new content is what keeps people coming back.
Part of the content cycle is as follows:
- Content starts at the blog
- Blog posts will be shared on Facebook and Twitter
- Facebook and Twitter posts will circle back to the blog
We will also have other bits of content that will be exclusive to Facebook and Twitter.
Social Media Promotion
One thing a lot of organizations do that I consider to be a misstep, is that they’ll take part in social media, but not have a single mention of the fact on their homepage.
I was actually a bit worried about this at first, because our homepage has very limited real estate, but as you can see, we got it worked out.
This is a good step for my employer, and I think the effort will be a guiding light for other credit unions to follow.
