I wasted a ton of money (potentially $295) on domain name registration in 2011 and I hope this post helps you not make the same mistakes I’ve made.
You’ve heard of GoDaddy.com right? Or, if nothing else, you’ve probably seen their commercials with half dressed women talking about web hosting and domain name registration.
I’ve been using their services for a while, and honestly, just got lazy because all of my domain names and hosting were under one roof. What a mistake.
Domain Name Registration Expense
Let me share some numbers with you. Registering a domain with GoDaddy costs around $12 and adding on private registration (prevents people from seeing who owns the domain) is another $9. I didn’t do the private registration each time, but I did manage to purchase 23 domains for a cost of around $272.
But here is the real kicker. Had I opted for the private registration, which is the route I prefer but avoided due to cost, the cost would have been nearly $500.
How I Could Have Saved $295
The thing is, I’ve now learned that I can take advantage of a much less expensive domain name registration company, and also receive private registration.
By using InternetBS.net I can now register domains for right at $8. The GoDaddy registration plus the private registration option totals around $21, which is around a $13 for every domain registered.
Had I used InternetBS.net for all of my domain name registration in 2011 I’d have saved around $295 (had I always gone with private registration through GoDaddy)… and that’s a chunk of change!
Domain Addict?
If you’re wondering why I bought so many domains in 2011, no, it’s not because I’m some sort of domain addict.
As a person with a marketing mind I’m sure you can appreciate that the wheels in my head are constantly turning and ideas come to mind all the time. When that happens, it’s often good to secure a domain for said idea just incase it comes to fruition.
This practice hasn’t been overly costly, although, prior to writing this I didn’t realize how many domains I’d purchased, and thanks to InternetBS it’s even less expensive now.
If domain name registration is something you currently do, or will be doing in the future, keep this post in mind because it will save you a nice chunk of change.
And you know what happens with that change, right? It gets used for the next big idea that comes to mind!
