Ever seen a Facebook page that uses what I like to call a Facebook landing page? There are lots of examples these days and with a little creativity you use them to give people reasons to become a fan, provide action items and much more.
The first step in creating a Facebook landing page is to add the Facebook Markup Language (better known as FBML) application to your page.
- You do this by going to the Edit Page screen
- Scrolling to the bottom and click Browse Applications under the More Applications tab
- Do a search for FBML and then add it to your page
Once you’ve added the application it will show up under the Applications section of the Edit Page screen. Adding a custom graphic is easier than you might think.
- To do so, simply click Edit on your new FBML application
- A screen with two boxes will now be on your screen
- The box title should be what you want the name of the tab to be – your first (yes you can have more than one custom tab) one might be something like “Become a Fan”
- The FBML box is where you’re going to put the html
You might actually laugh when you realize how easy this is. To get a tab like the one above you simply add the following html,
<img src=”https://ryanshell.com/fbmlexample.gif” />
Serious, that’s it. You’re basically just telling Facebook that you want an image to show up and where the image can be pulled from. After the tab is created, you might want to go to the FBML box settings and make the tab the first thing non fans see on your Facebook page.
From here, you can create experiment with creating additional custom tabs and even include things like video and forms. At the very least, you now know how to create a custom Facebook landing page.
