I had a nerd thought this morning and I wanted to share it with you.
Unless you’ve been hiding under a rock you know a midterm election is about to take place tomorrow, November 2.
For years you’ve heard about polling data that organizations collect, but imagine if we could start to harness the power of social networking sites such as Facebook and Twitter to get more up-to-date results.
Polling solutions already exists for Twitter, but I’ve never seen any type of “Twitter Election Poll” highlighted by a news organization. Have you?
Maybe it’s out there and I just don’t know about it.
Let’s assume it doesn’t for the sake of discussion.
The polling solution could require participants to login with Facebook or Twitter (there would be individual results for both) – doing so could limit one response per poll – and cast a vote for X election.
Categories could be broken down by state… and even down to municipal issues on the ballot.
For something like this to have traction you’d need one of the major polling outlets to get on board, but I think it would be kind of cool to see opinions pulled from social networks. Imagine how quickly new data could be pulled.
Maybe this is already being done… if so; feel free to point me in the right direction.
