Late Sunday night I shared my “afternoon at the movies” experience with you, which explained how I managed to get kicked out of the movies (Who knew I was such a rebel!). While talking with a friend last night she added to this little saga and I thought I’d share.
Evidentially she was at the same theatre about a month ago and prior to entering the theatre they were asking people to leave behind their cell phones and said they would be returned when the movie was over. To make it worse, there were two employees with security wands (that’s all I know to call them) checking people each and every time they entered and exited the theatre. When questioned what the guys were searching for they didn’t have a clear answer and eventually said “this is just part of our job.”
Let’s have some fun for a moment and make a list of annoying movie habits so that this theatre can make a bunch of new policies. Here’s a little something to get us started:
- No entering the theatre after the previews start
- Laughter and screams are the only form of verbal communication allowed
- Only one bathroom / snack break per movie
- All candy wrappers must be opened prior to the start of the movies
- You are only permitted to use the arm rest to your left
- Putting your feet on the chair in front of you is strictly prohibited
- If you answer a cell phone call other movie goers are permitted to throw popcorn on you
On a serious note, I understand what the theatre is setting out to do, but there are more customer friendly ways to achieve the goal. And there comes a point from a public relations standpoint where you have to step back and think, “have we gone a bit overboard?”
